Intensive Outpatient
Why Choose Our Intensive Outpatient Program?
Recovery looks different for everyone. For many people, meaningful change requires more support than weekly outpatient counselling, while still allowing them to remain engaged in work, school, and family life. Acadia Northwest’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a structured, supportive level of care designed to help individuals address substance use concerns while continuing to live at home and participate in daily responsibilities.
Our IOP is one option within a continuum of care and may be appropriate for individuals who are transitioning from a higher level of treatment or who need additional structure beyond standard outpatient services.
A Supportive, Structured Level of Care
Intensive Outpatient Programming provides a higher frequency of therapeutic contact in a non residential setting. At Acadia Northwest, IOP focuses on helping participants build stability, increase insight, and develop practical skills that support recovery.
We recognize that early recovery can involve navigating new routines, stressors, and environmental triggers. IOP offers consistent clinical support during this period, while allowing individuals to remain connected to their community and support systems.
What Participation Typically Includes
Participants in our IOP attend scheduled programming several days per week, with sessions offered during daytime or evening hours when available. Services are delivered by qualified, licensed clinicians and are guided by individualized assessment and treatment planning.
Group Therapy
Facilitated group sessions provide opportunities to explore substance use patterns, coping strategies, and recovery related topics in a supportive setting. Group participation can help reduce isolation and encourage shared learning and peer support.
Relapse Prevention and Skill Development
Programming often includes identifying personal risk factors, developing coping strategies, and practicing skills to manage stress, cravings, and challenging situations. These skills are intended to support safer decision making and increased self awareness.
Life Skills and Wellness Topics
Recovery oriented groups may also address communication skills, emotional regulation, stress management, and other areas that support overall well being.
Services are tailored to individual needs and may be adjusted over time based on clinical progress, preferences, and treatment goals.
Individualized and Person Centered Care
While group services are a core component of IOP, treatment at Acadia Northwest is guided by individualized assessment and ongoing clinical review. We recognize that substance use concerns often coexist with other mental health, medical, or social factors. When appropriate, care planning considers these needs and may include coordination with additional services or referrals.
Our clinical approach incorporates evidence informed practices, including elements commonly used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as appropriate to each individual’s goals and circumstances. Services are delivered in a respectful, non judgmental environment that emphasizes collaboration and personal choice.
Part of a Continuum of Care
Intensive Outpatient Programming is not a one size fits all solution and is most effective when matched appropriately to an individual’s needs. For some participants, IOP may serve as a step down from a more intensive level of care; for others, it may be a step up from traditional outpatient services. Ongoing assessment helps determine the most appropriate level of support over time.
